Can the PTU cause the symptoms I mentioned? Sporadic loss of cylinder? Done the injector clean, haven't done plugs - my mechanic is blaming the PTU so thought I should deal with that first. Before I started dailying it I did the 120k miles service and more; timing, water pump, clutch, rear main seal, you know all that. So im tank59 tank59 i recently installed the PTU upgrade on mine & a friends zeds. Z1 Motorsports PTU Relocation Kit for all '90+ 300zx models. Took it to a Nissan dealer & they put a new PTU in (but it was a Series 1 PTU - I didn't know any different at the time). The starter turns the engine over and over but it doesnt catch. I hooked it back up to the stock bracket but it still has a miss. To make things PTU failure I am having quite the same symptoms of your car (stumbling ,loss of power,bad acceleration). Nissan had a recall on the entire earlier model PTUs. I thought it was the classic PTU problem, but that doesnt seem to be the problem. Bad PTU = no spark on one or more channels, If you're getting spark at all 6 then the PTU is fine. The very nice man from the AA rubbed his chin and said it was something to do with the ignition.
